One of the most popular Japanese street foods meets a Southern classic in our Takoyaki Hushpuppies – a fried "octopus ball" topped with tangy BBQ sauce.  

Instructions: 

  1. Preheat: Preheat 2 inches of oil deep fryer or deep skillet to 365 degrees 

  2. Mix: Combine dry ingredients in bowl, adding in chopped and then wet ingredients. 

  3. Cook: Drop batter by the tablespoon into hot oil, let cook until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes. Remove with strainer, drain on paper towels. 

  4. Enjoy!  

Ingredients: 

Dry:  

1 cup self-rising flour 

3/4 cup all-purpose flour  

1 cup cornmeal 

1/2 tsp salt 

3/4 tsp sugar 

3/4 tsp of baking soda 

3/4 tsp baking powder 

Chopped:  

1/8 cup diced onion 

1 tbsp chopped scallion 

1 tbsp if pickled ginger 

2 cups chopped octopus 

Wet:  

3/4 cup whole milk 

1/3 cup buttermilk 

1 tbsp soy sauce 

1 egg
